Okay, guys, I have PART ONE of many Yuletide recs posts. I have been neglecting many things and just scrolling through the archives in awe and leaving my rambling comments of extreme delight scattered amongst the fics, and I have not even gone through the merest FRACTION of the archive. YOU GUYS, YULETIDE IS AMAZING, IN CASE YOU HAD NOT HEARD.

And lest you think I exaggerate, behold! I have proof! To wit:

Over the Stones - A Graveyard Book fic which tears my heart into little shreds; three meetings with the Grey Lady, interspersed with snippets of Bod's life. It's lovely and quiet and thoughtful, and not a tiny bit wrenching.

Tipping the Balance - Another Graveyard Book fic! One which holds an extra special place in my heart. One, I got to read it early and fawn all over it (I KNOW YOU ARE ALL JEALOUS MUAHAHA). Two, now I can never again not ship Bod/Silas when I read the books, or fic, or anything at all related to the canon. SILAS/BOD FOREVER, YOU GUYS. Seriously, though, this is wonderfully whimsical, adorable, very Gaiman-esque fic. You get to meet Bod's new friends! His girlfriend Pia (WHO IS ADORABLE AND AMAZING)! There are Silas-shaped spaces and then Silas-shaped SILAS A;SDLKFJA. SILAS WEARING A CRAVAT. I love this so much, you guys, I cannot even be coherent. GO READ AND COMMENT! You will not regret it!

faded from the winter - A pre-canon Anastasia fic, all the characters spot on. The historical details are perfect, Anastasia is heartbreakingly herself and her family is so wonderful and doomed. And oh oh oh, if you do not love sarcastic sulky Dimitri the shoe-boy, you are clearly lacking a soul. Warning: you may find yourself humming songs from the movie for hours afterward, if you are anything like me.

The Rules: or, Men are From Mars, Zombies are From Pluto - I may be a bit biased, since I did beta this one, but OH MAN. I feel like I have been waiting to rec this FOREVER. If you loved Zombieland and want a realistic adorable Tallahassee/Columbus fic, GET YOURSELF HENCE. The voice is SPOT-ON and the zombie hijinks are hilarious and you will find the oddest things to be completely sweet and romantic. I love this fic TO PIECES, I tell you. TO PIECES. READ IT, GO.

The Battle of Carthage: A Previously Unpublished Account of the Zombie War - Speaking of zombies, okay. So. I have a weakness for them. Most people who know me, know this. And WWZ is one of my favorite books of ALL TIME, and this fic? This fic captures everything I love about that book, the black humor and the tragedy and the horror and the humanity of it all. If you are in the mood for an undead Christmas, look no further. Also, the bit characters? AMAZING.

Most Likely To - AHHHHH! Post-Breakfast Club Brian/Bender fic! MY HEART-EYES! This is a lovely slow burn of a story, with a brilliant structure and UST that seriously will melt your face off. I loved it and how it captured Brian and Bender, so adorable and ugh ugh ugh, if you have any inclination towards this pairing at all, GO READ THIS.

The Terror from Bohemia: Being the Reminiscences of John H. Watson, M.D., in the Year of the Old Ones 745 - Okay, so, Neil Gaiman has basically been one of the most profound literary influences on my life and I kind of worship the man like a god (plus, he's dating Amanda Palmer! And I can't even be jealous! THAT IS HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM). And the short story "A Study in Emerald" is one of my very absolute favorites of all his works, and I hadn't even dreamed of a continuation, and then I stumbled across this in the archives. Take everything that is amazing and perfect and utterly breath-takingly awesome about Neil Gaiman, H.P. Lovecraft, and Sherlock Holmes, and then THROW IN IRENE ADLER. YOU CAN'T EVEN HANDLE THE IDEA OF IT, CAN YOU. NO, YOU CANNOT. Go, go and read about how Irene kicks some Cthulthu ass and totally shows up Holmes and Watson and is basically ten thousand flavors of awesome. GO WHY ARE YOU EVEN STILL HERE.

If Headaches Persist, Shoot Your Agent - O M G, you guys. This is the Bond/M fic I never knew I wanted. I can't even be coherent about it. It's not explicit in the slightest, and yet is somehow SCORCHING, and the character voices are spot on. I want to read this every day and then dreamily picture the subsequent events. PHWOAR. That is all.

The Lengthy Dimly Lit Coffee Break of the Psyche - You guys, I was so leery of trying to read a futurefic about Calvin and Hobbes. For some reason, I doubted fic could do the comic strip, which hold an extremely special place in my heart, justice. BUT MAN. I tell you what, I am SO GLAD I decided to read this, because it is seriously amazing and I am declaring it my personal canon forever, full stop. Also, I want to date Susie Derkins SO BAD. ♥

a table set for six (and five were there) - I CANNOT EVEN STAND HOW AMAZING THIS FIC IS, YOU GUYS. Okay, so, there is this book series, the Gentlemen Bastards by Scott Lynch, and I personally adore it to pieces. It's fun and ridiculous and just an amazingly rich world, and this fic? This fic is EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER DREAMED OF. It's a day in the life of the youngest Bastard, and it is pitch-perfect from beginning to end, brilliantly structured and fantastically written, and it could be slotted in as a chapter of one of the books without any problem at all. If you've read the first book, please please please drop everything you are doing and go read this. And then leave the author a comment telling them HOW RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING THEY ARE. Seriously, this fic. UGH YOU GUYS. THE WORLD IS FILLED WITH SUCH AMAZING PEOPLE.

#yuletide Mission - Rescue the Grue - AHAHAHA, you guuuuuys. If any of you spent any time in the irc #yuletide chat, read this for amazing meta fun. The chat has been so amazing these past weeks and I've fallen in love with everyone in it, and this fic? It captures the chat PERFECTLY. I literally found myself poised to write response, and then remembering only after I started searching for the field to type in that this was in fact fiction, and not reality. Brilliant.

Finally, last but not least, MY VERY OWN FIC, JUST FOR ME. ALL MINE.

Erm, I mean, I suppose other people can read it. MAYBE.

It is called Not Being Pandora, and it is set in one of my most favorite fandoms ever, the Agent Pendergast series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, and you guys, oh man, it is the most ridiculous thriller delight of ridiculous EVER, with crazy monsters and serial killers, and everything steeped in history and archaeology and biology. Only it is like, reality made into AWESOMESAUCE. And this fic captures it perfectly, it's just like a delicious fantastic preview of the next book that's coming out and I AM SO EXCITED BY IT and I'm going to re-read this EVERY DAY! Author, whoever you are, I love love love love love LOVE YOU. And I hope that's not creepy. But HOMG. THE GENIUS, IT PAINS ME. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Anyway, I have so many more to rec, but I am already late to go see Sherlock Holmes, and so they will have to wait until tomorrow. Or, erm, just later tonight. *g*

YULETIDERS, I LOVE YOU ALL MADLY. &HEARTS;

...also, EEEEEEEEEEE, [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv wrote me a ghost!Andrew ficlet (which will likely only make sense if you know the FtA bandom/HP RPG, or alternately if you just know that Andrew is a ghost and William is a librarian at Hogwarts) and it makes me SO HAPPY and it is not Yuletide but I want to rec it anyway, and so am including it here. :p
